CTC Monitoring uses a plug-and-play device that connects to a qualifying vehicle's onboard diagnostic (OBD) port. The Monitoring Device
Section titled “The Monitoring Device”CTC Monitoring uses a CARB-approved monitoring device for qualifying vehicles participating in the remote monitoring program.
The device connects directly to the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic (OBD) port and operates automatically during normal vehicle operation. Once installed and activated, the device supports ongoing remote monitoring without requiring routine interaction from the driver.
Installation Options
Section titled “Installation Options”Most qualifying vehicles use a simple plug-and-play installation. Customers may choose the installation method that best fits their needs:
- Self-installation using the provided instructions.
- Installation at our office.
- Mobile installation at your location (where available).
Some vehicles may require additional installation components depending on the vehicle configuration.
Activation
Section titled “Activation”After installation, the monitoring device is activated and associated with your vehicle.
Following the initial setup, simply operate the vehicle normally. During the initial activation period, the system completes the setup process and prepares the vehicle for ongoing remote monitoring. Under normal circumstances, the initial emissions test will begin automatically once the activation process has been completed.
During Normal Operation
Section titled “During Normal Operation”Once activated, simply operate the vehicle as you normally would.
The monitoring device collects the information necessary to support remote monitoring during normal vehicle operation. For qualifying vehicles, there is no need to schedule routine manual emissions testing — the system continuously supports the remote monitoring process while the vehicle is in normal service.

Our goal is to make the installation process as simple as possible while ensuring each monitoring device is operating properly before regular monitoring begins.
